Sapa is a former
French hill station situated in the sweeping valleys
near the Chinese border. Its high elevation of
1600 meters creates its cool climate which inspired
the French to build villas there as a summer retreat.
Today, Sapa still attracts visitors for its stunning
scenery, comfortable climate, colorful markets,
and a variety of ethnic hill tribes who live in
nearby villages. This program has increasingly
become popular through the years with improvements
in the road conditions and the new 4-star Victoria
Sapa Hotel making travel today much easier and
more comfortable.
ITINERARY
............................................................................................
Day
1: Hanoi - Sapa (Lunch
included)
Our adventure starts
with the drive to the mountain town of Sapa. The
journey to Sapa will take the best part of a day
over some uneven roads. The drive is worth it
though, as the scenery that unfolds on our northward
journey, and into the highlands is dramatic and
breathtaking. Arriving in Sapa late in the afternoon,
we will check into our hotel and use what day
light there is left to stretch our legs with a
short walk around town. This evening we will dine
at one of the local restaurants.
Day
2: Sapa Trekking - Catcat - Tavan
(Breakfast & Lunch included)
Today we start by getting some exercise with a
five or six hour trek to the hill tribe villages
of Cat Cat, Ta Van and Cau May. As we walk to
the villages nestled in the valley below Sapa,
we will meet some of the local minority people
on their way to and from Sapa. These minority
people, including the Red Zao, Hmong and Tay people,
walk to Sapa to trade at the markets. Tonight
we spend a second night in our hotel at Sapa town.
Day
3 : Sapa (Breakfast,
Lunch included)
Today our morning exercise is to make the short
climb up Ham Rong Mountain for a panoramic view
if Sapa and its environs. Once we have descended
the mountain we will then drive six kilometers
out of town. From here we commence a one-hour
walk to Ta Phin, home to the Red Zao people. Here
we have the opportunity to share cultural experiences
with the families that live in the area. From
here we will return to Sapa for lunch and free
time in the afternoon.
Day
4: Sapa - Hanoi (Breakfast,
Lunch included)
For trips in this area on Sundays, we have an
extension tour to Bac Ha, home to the flower Hmong
hill tribe minority people. A visit to the market
on Sunday is a must. The very colourful flower
Hmong people converge from far away villages to
trade and exchange goods here. After lunch in
Bac Ha, we begin our seven-hour trip back to Hanoi.
For trips not in this area on Sundays we will
make our way directly back to Hanoi.
